Barely
a year after making their first-ever public appearance at
a little pub in Little India, The Great Spy Experiment are
quickly establishing themselves as one of the local scene’s
hottest and most exciting new bands. Their music can only
be described as ‘a champagne-fuelled orgy of powerpop,
indie, rock and dance, informed by everything except J-Lo’.
The lyrics are just as varied – with bold attempts at
political infamy and typical male love-lust confusion –
they are as frank as they are astute, blasé as they
are evocative.
With Fandy Carlos(drums), Khairyl Hashim (bass), Magdelene
Han (keyboards), Saiful Idris (guitars and vocals) and Song
(guitars) all working hard on their debut full-length release
“Flower Show Riots”, it is no wonder that their
first single, “Captain Funkycurls/Class ‘A’
Love Affair”, has been receiving great local airplay
support. It was also voted into Power 98’s top ten chart
by listeners and stayed in the charts for a month.
The band’s high-energy live sets at events such as “The
Sembawang Festival” and “Baybeats 2006”
have also been huge hits with audiences. |

Lichtfront
VJs are a design collective based in Cologne, Germany. They
have a singular pursuit, and that is to interpret sounds directly
through images.
This is no-bars approach makes it possible to perform live
sets and for the VJs to directly react to the rhythm and the
feel of the music. The form of the sets corresponds to the
handwriting style of each Lichtfront VJ. Therefore there's
the incentive, as the set itself demonstrates, to produce
for each night an unforgetable visual clip.
Lichtfront VJs play all over the world, from the biggest festivals
in Europe (FiberFib, Monegros, Nature One, Mayday, Love Parade)
and Asia (Cream@Manila, Winterlove, Taiwan) besides creating
special visulas for DJ Hell, Miss Kittin, Paul van Dyk, Kompakt
Label, Carl Cox, David Caretta, Vitalic, Tiesto, Mogui and
many more. So, keep your eyes open for this young fresh design
from Germany. |
